Be careful going through small towns where the speed limit drops to 45 on U S 165 and U S 425 in Louisiana. A major revenue source for some of these small communities is speeding tickets.
It is not often that African American males have a good experience with white police officers especially in small rural towns in the south however, while traveling north on U S 165 today I was having a conversation with my daughter about the past and how blacks would have to pull down the shade when passing through towns like Pollock, LA (just north of Ball). Just about then, the blue lights were approaching from the rear. . On the patrol car was a shield with the “stars and bars”. I immediately thought; “here we go again”.
To my surprise and delight, the gentleman officer that stopped me was extremely polite and courteous. I was in shock that he was not just itching to give me a ticket. I did have a safety issue that I was not aware of. He notified me, the problem was rectified and we were on our way and no ticket. It was refreshing to meet a police officer that was more into "safety" than into issuing needless "tickets" as most officers in speed trap towns on U. S. 165 are.
